Aavin Announces Dairy Development Missions
Aavin will undertake two separate missions under the Tamil Nadu Innovative Initiatives (TANII) programme to improve the reproductive efficiency, growth and milk-yielding capacity of cows. The initiatives will involve a total investment of ₹20 crore.
The announcement was made by Tamil Nadu Minister for Milk and Dairy Development C. Vijayalakshmi during the demand for grants for her department. The missions are intended to strengthen the state’s dairy sector by improving cattle productivity and supporting higher milk production.
4,000 Jersey Crossbred Calves to Be Selected
Under the first mission, Aavin will select 4,000 Jersey crossbred calves from across Tamil Nadu. The programme will study methods to reduce the age of puberty, accelerate conception, ensure complete growth and improve the animals’ future milk-yielding capacity.
The first mission will be implemented at an estimated cost of ₹10 crore.
The selected calves will receive essential support, including:
- Required feed
- Deworming medicines
- Mineral mixtures
- Reproductive management
- Artificial insemination using sex-sorted semen
