Cargill opens INR 300 crore dairy feed plant in Punjab, strengthens India commitment

Cargill Animal Nutrition & Health has inaugurated a state-of-the-art dairy feed plant at Wazirabad, Punjab, with an investment of INR 300 crore, reaffirming its long-term commitment to India’s rapidly growing livestock sector.

Spread across 15 acres with an annual production capacity of 400,000 metric tons, the facility is Cargill’s largest dairy feed plant in South Asia and its second in Punjab after Bathinda. The plant is expected to generate over 1,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities.

Strategically located in one of North India’s most productive dairy belts, the Wazirabad unit will manufacture feed under globally recognised brands Provimi and Purina. The facility will cater to dairy farmers, producers and feed mills, ensuring consistent availability of high-quality, low-toxin feed compliant with BIS standards.

Equipped with advanced automation and modern production technologies, the plant will support improved milk yields, enhanced animal health and higher farm profitability. The expansion aligns with the Government of India’s ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ and ‘Make in India’ initiatives by strengthening domestic manufacturing and supporting rural livelihoods.

The facility was inaugurated by Punjab’s Minister of Industries & Commerce, Sanjeev Arora, along with Cargill leadership. The company stated that the investment reinforces its commitment to safety, quality, biosecurity and sustainable food systems while contributing to the growth of India’s dairy value chain.

India remains the world’s largest milk producer, contributing over a quarter of global milk output. With dairy accounting for nearly 5% of the national economy and supporting more than eight crore farmers, access to quality dairy feed remains critical for sustained sectoral growth.
