De Heus opens new feed mill in India – DairyDimension

RAJPURA, INDIA – De Heus India, part of the Netherlands-based De Heus Animal Nutrition, has inaugurated a new animal feed mill in Rajpura, Punjab, marking a $17 million investment in India’s livestock sector. The facility, one of the most advanced in the country, has an installed capacity of 180,000 tonnes annually, with the potential to scale up to 240,000 tonnes, reflecting the company’s long-term growth ambitions.

The Rajpura feed mill is equipped with separate production lines for cattle, buffalo, poultry, and pig feed. By adopting the latest European automation and processing technologies, the mill aims to set new standards in feed quality, consistency, and operational efficiency.

Supporting Indian Farmers and Livestock Professionalisation

Chairman Co De Heus highlighted that India remains central to the company’s global and Asian ambitions, noting the importance of the nation’s farming communities in feeding 1.45 billion people. He stressed that the Rajpura project was not only about infrastructure, but also about knowledge transfer and global expertise.

Managing Director Rutger Oudejans positioned the mill as a hub for on-farm services, training, and reliable feed solutions, enabling farmers to professionalise their operations. By giving independent livestock farmers access to international expertise and practical advice, the facility strengthens farmers’ positions in the value chain, addressing rising demand for safe and nutritious animal protein in India.

Sustainability and Regional Growth

The Rajpura feed mill incorporates sustainable practices such as a biomass boiler and advanced steam and water recycling systems, reducing its environmental footprint. The investment also promises significant socio-economic benefits: more than 300 direct jobs, opportunities for local suppliers, and demand stimulation for domestic raw materials, thereby energising Punjab’s agribusiness ecosystem.

De Heus India’s expansion reflects a broader transformation in the livestock and dairy sector, where technology, sustainability, and farmer empowerment are becoming cornerstones of growth.
