Climate-tech startup eVerse.AI is using connected livestock technology and methane monitoring systems to address two major challenges facing India’s dairy sector: low cattle productivity and the environmental impact of livestock farming.
The Maharashtra-based startup’s technology intervention among cattle farmers has demonstrated how digital tools can potentially improve milk production, increase farmer incomes and support methane-emission reduction. According to independently validated results cited by the company, a 24-month programme involving 400 smart collars across three villages increased average monthly farmer income from Rs 4,084 to Rs 8,440. Milk production during the period increased by 38.6 per cent.
The results have helped eVerse.AI move beyond its initial pilot phase as it works towards partnerships with state governments and dairy cooperatives. The company is also expanding its focus on carbon markets and international opportunities.
Smart Technology for Cattle Monitoring
Founded by Ashish Sonkusare and Vidhi Gaur in August 2022, eVerse.AI has developed two flagship platforms: ConnectedCow and GreenCow.
ConnectedCow is an Internet of Things (IoT)-enabled smart collar designed to monitor cattle health and reproductive parameters. The device can identify indicators associated with heat cycles, mastitis, foot-and-mouth disease and lameness. The company claims accuracy of more than 95 per cent for its monitoring capabilities.
The collar is priced at approximately Rs 5,000, which eVerse.AI says is significantly lower than competing devices priced at more than Rs 15,000. The lower cost is aimed at making livestock technology more accessible to farmers.
Methane Measurement and Carbon Credits
The company’s GreenCow platform focuses on methane emissions from cattle. It combines a handheld methane sensor with a digital measurement, reporting and verification (dMRV) platform.
The system is designed to measure reductions in methane emissions and provide the data required to convert verified emission savings into carbon credits. This connects livestock productivity with the emerging carbon-market opportunity.
Growing Deployment
According to eVerse.AI, its technology has been deployed through more than 30,000 devices, monitoring over 900,000 animals and reaching more than 200,000 farmers across Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh and Gujarat.
| Metric | Reported figure |
|---|---|
| Smart collars in pilot | 400 |
| Pilot duration | 24 months |
| Villages covered | 3 |
| Farmer income before intervention | Rs 4,084/month |
| Farmer income after intervention | Rs 8,440/month |
| Milk production increase | 38.6% |
| Devices deployed | 30,000+ |
| Animals monitored | 900,000+ |
| Farmers reached | 200,000+ |

The startup says it has remained bootstrapped and profitable since FY22, with revenue increasing from $47,000 to a provisional $611,000.
Expansion Through Government and Cooperatives
eVerse.AI’s next phase includes the Maharashtra Methane Mission (M3), which is planned to cover 20 million animals. The company is also working on a cooperative-led methane initiative with Banas Dairy.
Its technology development portfolio includes five filed patents. These include a handheld non-contact methane sensor priced below $1,000 and a muzzle-based cattle identification system.
The company says its cattle identification technology has been adopted for India’s national cattle identity programme, which covers approximately 350 million animals.
International Ambitions
The startup is now preparing to expand beyond India. A proposed New Zealand expansion involving Fonterra and the country’s Ministry for Primary Industries is part of its international strategy.
eVerse.AI has also joined the Women in Tech Accelerator Programme by Propel at BML Munjal University and IDEABAAZ. The programme is expected to support fundraising readiness, international go-to-market planning and partnerships with other women-led ventures.
With India having an estimated 380 million cattle, the company sees significant scope for technology-led productivity improvements. eVerse.AI’s approach combines livestock monitoring, farmer income enhancement and emissions measurement, positioning digital technology as a potential component of the next phase of India’s dairy-sector development.
