Milk Sustainability Center: Regional Expansion and New Strategic Partner – DairyDimension

Walldorf, Germany | 12 September 2025 — In a move set to redefine sustainable dairy farming, global agritech leaders John Deere and DeLaval have announced the expansion of the Milk Sustainability Centre (MSC) to more international markets, while welcoming dsm-firmenich as a new Strategic Partner.

First launched in 2023, the MSC is a unified digital ecosystem that integrates data from across crop, herd, and feeding operations—enabling dairy farmers to optimise productivity, reduce carbon emissions, and improve profitability through science-based sustainability insights.

With its latest expansion, MSC is now available in 13 countries across North America and Europe, with plans to scale further into emerging dairy markets, including India, Latin America, and Southeast Asia.

“We aim to unify the industry to support dairy farmers in improving their sustainability footprint,” said Lars Bergmann, EVP of Digital Service at DeLaval. “This collaboration gives farmers integrated tools to simplify automatic data flow, and enhance herd and field performance, supporting long-term sustainability goals.”

Data-Driven Dairy: A Cross-Platform Digital Solution

The MSC platform is compatible with over 30 leading herd, feeding, and milking software systems, allowing farmers to:

The platform remains brand-agnostic, ensuring accessibility regardless of the farm’s choice in machinery, feeding systems, or herd management tools.

“We’re already working on future features like benchmarking and tailored recommendations,” said Alexander Berges, Production System Manager at John Deere. “These will further enhance farm profitability and environmental performance.”

Strategic Collaboration with DSM-Firmenich: Precision and Credibility

The addition of DSM-Firmenich brings powerful environmental modelling tools into MSC through integration with its Sustell™ software—a leading lifecycle assessment (LCA) platform that offers certified, credible carbon footprint tracking for livestock operations.

With farmer consent, MSC data can now flow directly into Sustell™, giving users access to:

“This partnership makes sustainability assessments scalable and actionable,” said Dr. David Nickell, VP of Sustainability at dsm-firmenich. “With credible and transparent data, dairy farmers and value chain stakeholders can make informed, profitable improvements.”

Responding to Global Sustainability Demands

With climate change, shifting consumer expectations, and increasing regulatory scrutiny reshaping the global dairy landscape, platforms like MSC are becoming increasingly essential. The dairy industry is under pressure to prove environmental accountability, particularly in areas like:

By merging machine intelligence, data integration, and cross-industry collaboration, the MSC is establishing a robust foundation for climate-smart dairy systems—especially relevant for large dairy economies like India, where the adoption of precision dairy farming and eco-friendly practices is steadily increasing.

Open for Innovation and Partnerships

Beyond DSM-Firmenich, the MSC also partners with Dinamica Generale and is open to onboarding additional stakeholders, technology providers, and cooperatives committed to improving sustainability metrics across dairy farms.
