Telangana Food Safety Department Suspends Two Sangareddy Dairy Units Over Food Safety Violations

The Telangana Food Safety Department has suspended the licences of two dairy processing units in Sangareddy following inspections that uncovered multiple violations related to food safety, hygiene, product labelling and quality control. The enforcement action forms part of the department’s ongoing efforts to strengthen food safety standards across the Indian dairy industry.

Inspections carried out on 7 and 8 July at Saraswathi Dairy Products India Pvt. Ltd. and Divya Enterprises revealed several regulatory non-compliances, prompting immediate suspension of their food business licences.

According to the department, officials detected the sale of allegedly misbranded dairy products marketed under names including Keston Curd and Divya Curds. The products were found to carry misleading claims and advertisements, raising concerns over consumer protection and regulatory compliance.

The inspection teams also reported significant shortcomings in hygiene and sanitation practices. The facilities were found to have inadequate traceability records, making it difficult to verify the movement and origin of dairy products throughout the supply chain. Inspectors additionally observed pest infestation, structural deficiencies and poor storage practices, all of which pose potential risks to food safety and product quality.

Authorities also identified deficiencies in operational safety procedures, including the reported use of expired laboratory reagents during quality testing. Such lapses can compromise product verification processes and undermine consumer confidence in dairy products.

As part of the enforcement action, the department seized approximately 3,800 kg of cream, valued at around ₹9.22 lakh. Samples of milk, curd, and paneer have also been collected and sent for laboratory analysis to determine compliance with prescribed food safety standards.

The action underscores the increasing emphasis by food safety authorities on ensuring compliance with labelling regulations, hygiene protocols and quality assurance systems. Regular inspections and strict enforcement remain essential to maintaining consumer trust and supporting sustainable growth in India’s dairy sector.
