Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha has announced that the state now ranks second in milk production in the northeast and is moving steadily towards full self-sufficiency in milk and egg production.
Speaking at the 17th Foundation Day of the College of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry in Agartala, Saha praised the college’s infrastructure and called for transforming it into one of India’s leading veterinary institutions. He highlighted the expansion of veterinary education in the state, with seats increasing from just a few to 66.
The Chief Minister said Tripura already leads the region in per capita egg availability and has achieved self-sufficiency in meat production. He urged collaboration between the government and stakeholders to meet dairy self-reliance goals.
Saha also shared progress under the Green Animal Food Development Project, which has started fodder cultivation on 286 hectares, and noted new duck and poultry farming initiatives under the Chief Minister’s Animal Resources Scheme. He further announced that the foundation stone for the SHIJA Super Speciality Hospital near RK Nagar will be laid on 5 November, marking another milestone in Tripura’s development journey.
