Agartala, May 17 â In a landmark development for the Tripura dairy sector, a new milk processing facility with a capacity of 40,000 TLPD (Thousand Litres Per Day) has been inaugurated in Bamutia, West Tripura. The facility, developed by Gomati Cooperative Milk Producers Union Ltd, was officially opened by Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, and Minister of State SP Singh Baghel.
The âč22.01 crore facilityâbuilt over 3.57 acresâmarks a decisive step towards achieving milk self-sufficiency in Tripura, reducing reliance on imports, and strengthening the dairy value chain in the region.
The project has received âč19.38 crore in central funding, with an additional âč2 crore from the state government, showcasing strong Centre-State coordination under the broader Dairy Policy India framework.
âTripura has the potential to become self-reliant in both milk and fish production,â said Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh. âThe Centre is committed to supporting this transition. We plan to hold a detailed roadmap session in June with NDDB and NFDB to fast-track Tripuraâs agri-dairy-fisheries integration.â
The move is aligned with the âDoubling Farmers’ Incomeâ vision and the Indian dairy industryâs expansion into previously under-served northeastern states. The facility will directly benefit rural dairy farmers, enabling better milk procurement prices and value-added processing at the cooperative level.
According to Ratan Ghosh, Chairman of the Gomati Cooperative Milk Producers Union Ltd, this project is a symbol of developmental momentum in Tripura under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership.
âThis dairy plant will significantly boost local incomes and bring structured growth to the milk industry in Tripura,â said Ghosh.
The plantâs establishment is also expected to increase awareness around dairy cooperative news, milk processing infrastructure, and the long-term viability of value-added dairy products from the region.
