Zagro has officially rebranded its Indian subsidiary, with PL Agro Technologies Pvt Ltd now operating as Zagro India Pvt Ltd. The Chennai-based company, acquired by Zagro three years ago, is a wholly owned subsidiary of Zagro Singapore Pte Ltd.
The rebranding strengthens the Indian business’s integration with the wider Zagro group and is expected to give customers access to the company’s global research and development capabilities, manufacturing standards and wider product portfolio.
According to Zagro, the change does not affect existing ownership arrangements, contracts, customer relationships, commitments, quality standards or service levels. The existing management and technical teams will also continue to support the business.
Focus on India’s Growing Agriculture Market
Zagro views India as one of the world’s fastest-growing agricultural and livestock markets, with poultry representing a major opportunity. India is currently the world’s third-largest egg producer and fifth-largest poultry meat producer, with annual egg production exceeding 140 billion.
The company aims to support this expanding livestock industry through products covering animal nutrition, animal health and crop care.
| Business Segment | Key Areas |
|---|---|
| Animal Nutrition | Vitamin and mineral premixes, feed additives, toxin binders and functional nutrition |
| Animal Health | Poultry, swine, dairy, aquaculture and farm biosecurity |
| Crop Care | Crop protection, plant nutrition and specialty agrochemicals |
Zagro plans to serve customers across poultry, dairy, beef cattle, swine, aquaculture, companion animals and crop production. Its approach includes technical consultancy, product support and training alongside its product offerings.
Chennai Plant at the Centre
The Chennai facility will remain the company’s primary production hub for the Indian market. The plant manufactures mineral premixes, including organic and inorganic variants, mycotoxin binders, Halquinol, oral liquids, Tiamulin 80% and customized products.
Zagro said the facility will play an important role in increasing market penetration, reducing product lead times and enabling faster responses to customer requirements.
The company’s strategy is summarized by the principle of “Global technology, local production and effective solutions.” It also aims to strengthen relationships with poultry farmers, veterinarians and feed millers across India.
The business is led commercially in India by Manas Mitra, Commercial Head – India. Raja Vadivel, R&D Project Manager at Zagro Singapore, is responsible for technical assistance and product information.
At the group level, Poh Beng Swee, Chairman and CEO of Zagro Asia Limited, has emphasized closer cooperation with customers to develop innovative products and agricultural solutions. Dr Hary Hartantyo, Regional Director at Zagro Singapore and General Director of Zagro Vietnam, also brings extensive experience from his long association with the company.
More Than Seven Decades of Experience
Zagro was established in 1953 as a division of the Swiss-based Zuellig Group and was listed on the Singapore Stock Exchange in 1996. The company has since expanded its operations across animal health, animal nutrition, crop care, public health and industrial chemicals.
Zagro says it has more than 70 years of international experience and operates in more than 70 countries. Its portfolio includes hundreds of animal health registrations and trademarks, while the company states that 99.9% of its business is international.
The group expanded significantly between 2004 and 2010 through subsidiaries and acquisitions across Asia, Europe and Africa, including the purchase of BASF’s animal nutrition business in Taiwan.
The company also operates manufacturing facilities holding GMP and ISO 22000 certifications, with product testing conducted through an accredited independent laboratory.
The rebranding of PL Agro Technologies does not introduce a new factory or product portfolio in itself. Instead, it places the Chennai operation more clearly under the Zagro identity and signals the company’s intention to expand its presence in India’s agriculture and livestock markets.
For Zagro India, the next phase will depend on how effectively its expanded capabilities translate into stronger relationships with farmers, veterinarians and feed manufacturers and ultimately greater market penetration.
