Price Increase After 23 Months
Goa Dairy has raised the price of full cream milk by ₹3 per litre. The new rate is ₹70, and it applies from 3 December. This is the first increase in almost two years. The cooperative says higher production and procurement costs led to the revision.
New 500ml Pack Introduced
To offer more choice, Goa Dairy has also launched a 500ml pack of full cream milk. It costs ₹35. Earlier, the dairy sold this variant only in one-litre packs. This move helps consumers who prefer smaller quantities.
Other Milk Variants Keep Old Prices
The price hike affects only full cream milk. All other variants continue at the same rates.
Shakti (standardised milk) still sells for ₹29 per 500ml.
Cow milk remains at ₹27 for 500ml.
Cold Gold (toned milk) stays at ₹51 per litre and ₹25 for a 475ml pack.
Goa Dairy offers four types of milk. Each variant uses colour-coded packets and has different fat and SNF levels. Full cream comes in orange packs. Shakti is sold in green packs. Cow milk comes in red packs. Cold Gold, the toned milk variant, is available in blue packs.
Impact on Households
Families that use two packets of full cream milk every day will spend about ₹180 more per month. The cooperative says the hike will help maintain quality and ensure stable payments to farmers.
Nutrition Matters for Children
Milk, cheese, and yoghurt give essential nutrients like protein, calcium, and vitamin B12. These support brain development and nerve function. Probiotic yoghurt improves gut health, which also helps mood and memory. Healthy eating, good sleep, physical activity, and less screen time all support better focus and learning.
Balancing Consumer Needs and Farmer Welfare
Goa Dairy says it aims to balance rising costs with consumer affordability. By revising only one variant and adding a new, smaller pack, the cooperative hopes to reduce the burden on families while still supporting local milk producers.
