Joint Raid Exposes Milk Adulteration Operation
Mumbai police and the Food Safety Department have busted a fake milk racket in Andheri West, uncovering the adulteration of milk sold under the names of well-known dairy brands. The Versova police, along with food safety officials, carried out a joint raid on December 31 in the Navjeevan Nagar area of Four Bungalows.
Seven Booked, FIR Registered
Authorities registered an FIR against seven individuals on the same day. The raid targeted multiple rooms, numbers 28, 57, 77, 78, 9, and 21, located within the premises of the Navjeevan Nagar Residents’ Welfare Association. Officials caught the accused in the act during the operation.
Milk Diluted and Resealed for Sale
Investigators found that the accused removed milk from sealed packets of reputed brands and diluted it with unclean water. They then refilled the adulterated milk into the same branded packets and resealed them improperly. The group allegedly carried out the activity to increase volume and cheat consumers for financial gain.
Multiple Branded Packets Misused
Officials stated that the accused misused packets of popular brands, including Amul Taaza, Amul Gold, Amul A2, Gokul Satvik, and Gokul Classic. They reportedly poured original milk into empty packets, added water, and prepared the adulterated packets for resale in the local market.
Tip-Off Triggered the Raid
The operation followed a tip-off received by the office of the Joint Commissioner (Mumbai Division) of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Acting on the information, a team led by Senior Police Inspector Deepshikha Ware, along with FDA officials, conducted the raid and apprehended the accused red-handed.
Investigation Continues
Police confirmed that all the accused are residents of the Navjeevan Nagar area in Andheri West. Officials are now investigating the scale of distribution and verifying whether similar adulteration activities were conducted at other locations. Authorities have also begun tracing supply links to prevent further circulation of adulterated milk.
