Kerala Targets Top Spot in India’s Milk Production

Kerala is set to become India’s largest milk producer with initiatives to boost production and strengthen the cooperative dairy sector, said Animal Husbandry Minister J. Chinchurani. Speaking at a seminar with NDDB and Milma, she highlighted challenges like land scarcity for feed and announced projects including expanded fodder cultivation and the e-Samrudha digital livestock system.

NDDB Chairman Meenesh Shah spoke of White Revolution 2.0, aiming for 10 crore litres/day milk procurement in four to five years. Milma Chairman K.S. Mani outlined plans to grow turnover from ₹4,327 crore to ₹10,052 crore by 2030, with expansions to airports, harbours, cruise ships, and metro vending machines, ensuring wider consumer access and supporting rural livelihoods.

The initiatives also aim to improve productivity and reduce production costs, leveraging technology for sustainable dairy growth. Officials emphasised that cooperative efforts like Milma will strengthen farmer incomes and secure India’s position in global milk production.
