The Maharashtra government is working on a new fodder policy to strengthen the dairy sector after unseasonal rains caused serious damage this year. Minister of State Ashish Jaiswal said the heavy deluge between June and September led to fodder shortages and major cattle losses across several districts. As a result, many dairy farmers faced severe financial pressure.
Government Moves to Improve Fodder Security
Jaiswal explained that the state wants to create a long-term policy that protects milk production during extreme weather. He also said that the government has already paid compensation for lost cattle. In addition, the population of Maharashtra continues to grow quickly. Therefore, demand for milk and dairy products is rising, which makes fodder security even more important.
Digital Integration and Local Infrastructure Support
The Minister noted that Agristack integration is complete in almost all districts except Sindhudurg, Ratnagiri and Pune. Once the system is fully ready, farmers will no longer need repeated e-KYC updates. Furthermore, the state has revived wells in affected regions. These efforts will help farmers secure water for crops and livestock.
Improving Access and Safety for Farmers
Jaiswal also addressed concerns about wildlife attacks. He said the cabinet has approved the Baliraja Shet Bandhan Rasta Yojana. Under this scheme, the government will build internal roads connecting farmlands as part of the larger Amritkaal Rasta Yojana. Road numbering began on 4 December.
Government Reassures Farmers
Before concluding, Jaiswal reaffirmed the government’s support. He said, “Whatever the challenge, the government stands firmly with farmers. There is no shortage of funds for them.”
