Milma Opens Ambalathara Dairy for Public Visits Ahead of National Milk Day

Milma’s Thiruvananthapuram Regional Co-operative Milk Producers’ Union (TRCMPU) will open its Ambalathara dairy to the public on 24 and 25 November as part of the National Milk Day celebrations. The initiative reflects a broader industry shift towards operational transparency and deeper consumer engagement, especially as southern markets become increasingly competitive.

Visitors will be allowed entry from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., providing a structured walkthrough of Milma’s processing pipeline from raw milk collection at primary co-operative units to pasteurisation, sterilisation and final packaging for retail distribution. The tour also includes a look at the production of Milma’s value-added portfolio, including ghee, paneer, butter, buttermilk and ice cream, underscoring the cooperative’s focus on strengthening margins through product diversification.

National Milk Day, observed on November 26 in memory of Verghese Kurien, has evolved into an important platform for dairy organisations to highlight their modernisation efforts and quality assurance practices. Milma’s open house aligns with this trend, offering the public an evidence-based view of the technology, hygiene standards, and cold-chain systems shaping Kerala’s dairy operations. Discounted product counters on the premises are expected to enhance consumer outreach.

As part of the celebrations, TRCMPU will also conduct a painting competition on 20 November and a quiz competition on 21 November for high school and higher secondary students. These youth-focused activities reinforce Milma’s sustained commitment to community engagement and sector awareness.
