Milma Launches Bottled ‘Milma Cow Milk’ in Kerala to Boost Market Reach

Thiruvananthapuram, August 19, 2025 — The Kerala Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation, popularly known as Milma, has entered the bottled milk segment with the launch of ‘Milma Cow Milk’, marking a new phase of value addition in the Indian dairy industry.

A Fresh Take on Milk Packaging

The newly launched product comes in one-litre food-grade plastic bottles, designed to ensure freshness and ease of handling. With a shelf life of three days under refrigeration, the pasteurised milk carries a nutritional profile of 3.2% fat and 8.5% solids-not-fat (SNF). Priced at ₹70 per litre, the bottled variant is positioned as a premium alternative to conventional pouch milk, focusing on hygiene, quality, and consumer convenience.

Launch and Distribution Strategy

Initially rolled out across Thiruvananthapuram district, the bottled milk will soon be made available in Kollam, Pathanamthitta, and Alappuzha, before expanding to a broader market. In addition to Milma’s own sales outlets, the product is being distributed through supermarkets such as Lulu and Reliance, as well as online platforms, ensuring consumers have multiple access points.

Onam-Linked Incentives for Farmers

Coinciding with the Onam season, Milma has announced a ₹4.8-crore incentive package derived from its annual profits. Farmers supplying milk in July will benefit from an additional ₹6 per litre, with ₹ four going directly to farmers, ₹1 to cooperative societies, and ₹1 to the regional union. The cooperative has also enhanced welfare measures, including emergency medical aid up to ₹25,000, along with scholarships, pensions, and support schemes that underline Milma’s farmer-first approach.

Strategic Importance for the Dairy Sector

The bottled milk initiative highlights Milma’s move to strengthen its position in an increasingly competitive market, where private players have gained traction with similar products. By leveraging its cooperative structure, Milma combines premium dairy offerings with farmer welfare measures, creating a dual advantage of consumer trust and producer support.

With this step, Milma not only enhances its product portfolio but also signals a broader trend in the dairy sector in India, where value-added dairy products and improved packaging are becoming central to market growth.
