📰 Neogen Sells Global Cleaners and Disinfectants Business to Kersia for $130M, Sharpens Focus on Food Safety Diagnostics

Neogen Corporation has announced the divestiture of its global cleaners and disinfectants business to Kersia Group, a leading global player in food safety and biosecurity solutions. The $130 million cash deal—plus performance-based contingent payments—marks a pivotal move in Neogen’s strategy to consolidate its leadership in food safety diagnostics, particularly for livestock-intensive markets such as dairy, poultry, and swine.

The transaction, expected to close in the first quarter of Neogen’s fiscal 2026, is subject to regulatory approval and customary conditions. Once finalized, it will enable Neogen to fully repay $100 million in revolving credit and reduce its net leverage ratio by approximately 0.4x, reflecting a leaner balance sheet aligned with its diagnostics-first focus.

What It Means for the Dairy Sector

For dairy operators, the shift signals a maturing of the animal biosecurity market, as major players carve out specialized territories. Neogen’s disinfectant portfolio—formerly deployed across large-scale ruminant, poultry, and swine operations—generated approximately $60 million in annual revenue globally. It includes high-efficacy solutions crucial for hygiene compliance on dairy farms, milk processing units, and calf-rearing operations.

As Kersia absorbs this portfolio, dairy producers may see greater product specialization, access to enhanced protocols, and stronger technical support, especially in cross-contamination prevention and pre-milking disinfection processes.

Its expanded portfolio could prove especially valuable in markets like India, Brazil, and Southeast Asia, where demand for integrated dairy hygiene solutions is growing in tandem with milk production.

This acquisition underscores a global convergence trend in dairy sector solutions—where diagnostics, biosecurity, and data-driven farm management increasingly intersect.
