Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu has announced that the High Level Task Force (HLTF) constituted by the Union DoNER Ministry is developing a five-year plan to achieve self-reliance in milk, egg, fish and meat production across the Northeast by 2030. Khandu, who chairs the HLTF, said cooperatives will play a central role in expanding production capacity and improving market integration across the region.
Speaking at the Golden Jubilee of the Arunachal Pradesh State Cooperative Union (APSCU), Khandu highlighted the rapid growth of the cooperative sector from its NEFA-era beginnings to a network of 1,449 societies with more than 2.2 lakh members. He appreciated APSCU’s 27-district revival tour, which exposed key gaps, including poor infrastructure, limited awareness of cooperative principles and the lack of cooperative banking in several districts.
Khandu assured full government support for strengthening cooperatives once the model code of conduct ends, stressing that a more professional and autonomous APSCU is essential for driving Atma Nirbhar Arunachal. He said the cooperative framework will be instrumental in boosting dairy and livestock productivity and helping the Northeast reduce its dependence on imports from other states.
