📰 Odisha CM Distributes Milk Tanks, Launches New Dairy Infrastructure to Boost Milk Production and Quality

Bhubaneswar | July 2025 — In a significant step to modernise Odisha’s dairy infrastructure and empower rural milk producers, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi distributed 22 milk storage tanks of 2,000 to 15,000-litre capacity to various milk unions across the state. The initiative, undertaken with an investment of ₹7.5 crore, aims to strengthen milk collection networks and enhance quality control.

At the same event, the CM also inaugurated three milk packing machines worth ₹3.5 crore and dedicated 62 staff quarters at the OMFED (Odisha State Cooperative Milk Producers’ Federation) dairy plant, reinforcing the government’s commitment to dairy development and rural employment.

“These additions will not only enhance our state’s dairy capacity but also ensure better quality and freshness of milk reaching consumers,” Majhi said during the event.

🐄 Kamdhenu Scheme to Drive High-Yield Dairy Growth

Looking ahead, Majhi announced the government’s plan to distribute 10,000 high-yielding breed cows under the Chief Minister Kamdhenu Yojana, which already provides financial assistance to nearly 70% of the state’s farmers. This initiative is expected to benefit approximately 15 lakh dairy farmers and cowherds in Odisha.

“Our target is to increase milk production through high-yield breeds while ensuring income stability for rural families,” Majhi added.

OMFED continues to grow its footprint in the value-added dairy segment with a diverse range of products, including curd, milk, cheese, butter, chhena poda, ice cream, sweet curd, peda, rabdi, and flavoured milk. This product expansion is creating new employment opportunities for young people in dairy processing and retail.

Additionally, OMFED has entered into a prestigious agreement with the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration to supply 30 metric tonnes of ghee for Mahaprasad and other religious rituals, further cementing its role in Odisha’s cultural and economic fabric.
