Kolhapur Jilha Dudh Utpadak Sangh, popularly known as Gokul Dairy, is going to set up veterinary and dairy technology colleges with an intake of 60 students each.
The dairy is facing a shortage of veterinary doctors.
Arun Dongale, chairman of the dairy, said, “The colleges will serve two purposes. It will help us get good doctors and dairy technicians and also give an opportunity for the sons and daughters of local farmers to become doctors and graduates in dairy technology. There is a need for over a hundred veterinary doctors in Kolhapur district alone.”
The dairy administration has finalised land near Katyayani Hills on the outskirts of Kolhapur city. “We are going to table the proposal before the general body of the dairy and then it will be submitted to state govt for final approval,” Dongale said.
