Thiruvananthapuram, September 9, 2025 — In a resounding success for Kerala’s dairy sector, Milma’s Thiruvananthapuram Regional Co-operative Milk Producers Union (TRCMPU) has posted record-breaking dairy sales of ₹37 crore during the five-day Onam festival season. This performance marks a significant milestone in seasonal dairy sales in Southern India, underscoring the increasing consumer demand for fresh milk, curd, and ghee during festive periods.
🔹 Massive Festive Surge in Milk and Curd Demand
The TRCMPU, which caters to the districts of Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, and Alappuzha, reported exceptionally high sales from August 31Â (Anizham day) to September 4 (Uthradam day). The revenue was primarily driven by:
- Milk sales: 38,78,851 litres
- Curd sales: 3,69,507 kg
- Ghee sales: 345 metric tonnes
🔹 Uthradam Day Sets New Single-Day Record
A standout performance was recorded on Uthradam day, traditionally the most critical pre-Onam shopping day, with:
- 13,37,471 litres of milk sold in a single day
- 1,49,632 kg of curd sold
This single-day spike demonstrates the critical role of dairy in festive household consumption patterns across Kerala, particularly in the preparation of traditional Onam dishes like avial, sambar, palada payasam, and various sweets and snacks that rely heavily on dairy ingredients.
🔹 Strategic Distribution and Supply Chain Support
Milma’s ability to meet the surge in demand reflects efficient supply chain coordination and regional milk pooling efforts. The TRCMPU’s strong dairy farmer network and robust retail presence were instrumental in achieving seamless delivery during this peak period.
🔹 Implications for Kerala’s Dairy Market
This record sale not only highlights seasonal consumer behaviour but also emphasises the potential for value-added dairy products in regional festivals. It presents an opportunity for expansion in the packaging, distribution, and marketing of traditional dairy products tailored for festive consumption.
