South India Drives 80% of National Dairy Consumption: Godrej Jersey

Godrej Jersey India has reported that South India contributes nearly 80% of the country’s total dairy consumption, reflecting the region’s strong preference for milk and value-added dairy products. Speaking on the occasion, company representatives noted that southern markets continue to lead national dairy demand due to high household usage, rising urban consumption, and a well-developed cold-chain distribution system.

The company said the South remains a critical growth engine for India’s dairy industry, with consumers showing increased interest in products such as curd, paneer, ghee, buttermilk, and flavoured milk. This shift is supported by evolving dietary choices, higher awareness of nutrition, and the region’s long-standing cultural association with dairy as a daily staple.

Industry analysts explain that the southern States benefit from relatively stronger cooperative networks, better processing infrastructure, and stable procurement systems, factors that support consistent supply and higher per capita consumption compared to other regions. As a result, brands such as Godrej Jersey, Nandini, Aavin, Milma, and Vijaya have built strong loyalty across markets.

Godrej Jersey India added that the demand for value-added dairy products is expanding rapidly, reflecting the broader shift in India’s dairy sector from volume to nutrition and quality. With consumers increasingly seeking convenience, purity, and functional benefits, companies are investing in innovation, fortified products, and superior traceability systems.

According to the company, the South’s consumption pattern positions it as a strategic hub for future dairy growth. As India moves towards a nutrition-focused dairy revolution, the region’s strong demand base, informed consumers, and advanced supply ecosystem are expected to continue driving national trends.
