🌿 GADVASU Trains Dairy Farmers on Advanced Nutritional Technologies to Improve Productivity

Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana, has concluded a five-day hands-on training programme aimed at equipping dairy farmers with modern nutritional technologies to improve livestock health, milk production and farm profitability.

The programme was organised by the Department of Animal Nutrition under the Directorate of Extension Education, bringing together dairy farmers for practical sessions on scientific feeding practices and efficient feed management.

🄠Focus on Scientific Dairy Nutrition

During the valedictory session, Dr. R.S. Grewal, Director of Extension Education, encouraged participants to adopt scientific feeding methods and utilise the university’s advisory services to enhance dairy productivity and profitability.

Dr. J.S. Hundal, Head of the Department of Animal Nutrition and Course Director, explained that the programme focused on practical solutions for balanced ration formulation, efficient use of locally available feed resources and modern feeding technologies that can improve milk yield while reducing production costs.

📚 Practical Training for Better Farm Management

The five-day programme combined classroom sessions with practical demonstrations covering several important areas of dairy nutrition, including:

  • 🥛 Balanced ration formulation
  • 🌾 Efficient use of locally available feed resources
  • 🧱 Urea Molasses Mineral Blocks (UMMB)
  • 🧈 Bypass fat technology
  • 🌱 Silage and hay preparation
  • 🔬 Feed analysis and testing
  • âš ï¸ Aflatoxin management
  • 🧪 Mineral mixture preparation
  • âš™ï¸ Feed mill machinery operations
  • 🌾 Urea treatment of crop residues

The participants appreciated the hands-on approach, stating that the practical knowledge would help them implement scientific feeding practices on their farms.

📈 Supporting Sustainable Dairy Farming

Proper nutrition plays a vital role in improving animal health, reproductive performance and milk productivity. Programmes such as these enable farmers to optimise feed utilisation, reduce production costs and improve overall profitability while promoting sustainable dairy farming practices.

🌳 Plantation Drive Promotes Green Campus

Alongside the training programme, the College of Dairy and Food Science Technology organised a tree plantation drive as part of GADVASU’s environmental sustainability initiative.

The campaign was inaugurated by Dr. S.P.S. Ghuman, Dean of the college, with faculty members, postgraduate students and staff participating in the plantation of trees, flowering shrubs and ornamental plants to enhance the university’s green cover.

The initiative reflects GADVASU’s commitment to combining agricultural education with environmental conservation while promoting sustainable practices within the dairy sector.
