Rs 300 crore facility will produce 400,000 tonnes annually and create over 1,000 jobs
Wazirabad, Punjab: Cargill Animal Nutrition & Health has opened a new state-of-the-art dairy feed manufacturing plant in Wazirabad, Punjab, strengthening its presence in one of India’s key dairy-producing regions and supporting efforts to expand domestic dairy feed production.
The facility has been established with an investment of Rs 300 crore and an annual production capacity of 400,000 metric tonnes. According to Cargill, the plant is its largest dairy feed facility in South Asia and its second plant in Punjab, following its facility in Bathinda.
The expansion reflects the company’s long-term confidence in India’s livestock and dairy sector while supporting the country’s broader Atmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India objectives.
Bringing dairy nutrition closer to farmers
Spread across 15 acres, the Wazirabad facility is strategically located in a high-density dairy region of Punjab. Its proximity to dairy-producing communities is expected to improve the availability and supply reliability of quality feed for farmers.
The plant will manufacture a range of dairy feed products for young animals and milking cows, using advanced automation and production technologies. Products manufactured at the facility will be marketed under Cargill’s Provimi and Purina brands.
The products will serve several customer segments, including dairy farmers, dairy producers and feed mills.

Focus on feed quality and farm profitability
The new facility is designed to provide farmers with consistent access to safe and high-quality dairy feed. Cargill said its products will comply with BIS guidelines, with a focus on low-toxin feed and science-based nutrition.
According to Ravinder Balain, President of Cargill India and Senior Managing Director of Cargill Animal Nutrition & Health, India, expanding manufacturing closer to Punjab’s major dairy regions will improve supply reliability and support farm profitability.
Better access to consistent-quality feed can play an important role in dairy productivity, potentially supporting improved milk yields, animal health and farmer incomes. The investment therefore extends beyond manufacturing capacity to strengthening several parts of the dairy value chain.
Punjab welcomes major agri-sector investment
The plant was inaugurated by Sanjeev Arora, Minister of Industries & Commerce, Punjab, alongside Cargill leadership.
Arora highlighted Punjab’s position in India’s agricultural and dairy landscape and said investments from global companies could further strengthen the state’s industrial ecosystem while creating employment opportunities and supporting rural livelihoods.
He also said the Punjab government would provide support to investors and expressed the ambition of positioning the state as a preferred destination for agri and food-sector investments.
Supporting jobs and local economic activity
Cargill expects the new plant to generate more than 1,000 direct and indirect jobs, creating additional livelihood opportunities for communities surrounding the facility.
The company said the Wazirabad investment, together with its Bathinda plant, will contribute to local manufacturing, skill development and economic activity in Punjab.
The expansion comes at a significant time for India’s dairy sector. India remains the world’s largest milk producer and accounts for more than a quarter of global milk output. Dairy is also the country’s largest agricultural product and provides livelihoods to millions of farmers.
Strengthening India’s dairy feed supply chain
The availability of high-quality feed is increasingly important as milk consumption continues to grow and dairy farmers seek ways to improve productivity and animal health.
Cargill said the Wazirabad facility has been designed according to its global standards for workplace safety, biosecurity and product quality. Responsible operations and sustainable food systems are also part of the facility’s operating approach.
With its large production capacity, strategic location and focus on dairy nutrition, the new plant is expected to strengthen Cargill’s manufacturing footprint while improving access to feed for Punjab’s dairy farming community.
