Mother Dairy Sets Up First Butter Chiplet Line in Gujarat

Mother Dairy Fruit & Vegetable Pvt. Ltd. has established its first dedicated butter chiplet manufacturing line at its existing milk processing facility in Junagadh, Gujarat, marking an expansion into a convenient, portion-controlled butter format.

The new manufacturing line, located at Junagadh Dairy, has an annual production capacity of 550 tonnes. The facility will manufacture 10-gram butter chiplets and supply the product to markets across India.

The move adds another value-added format to Mother Dairy’s packaged butter portfolio while making use of existing dairy-processing infrastructure.

10-Gram Format Designed for Convenience

Butter chiplets are small, individually portioned units designed to provide consumers with a convenient and ready-to-use butter format. The 10-gram size can be suited to individual consumption occasions across households, foodservice and other applications where controlled portions are preferred.

The format also supports easier handling and serving compared with conventional larger butter packs. Portion-controlled dairy products have gained relevance as consumers and food businesses increasingly seek convenient packaging and products that can be used without additional measuring or preparation.

For Mother Dairy, the new product format provides an opportunity to diversify its packaged butter offering while addressing demand for convenience-led dairy products.

Junagadh Facility to Support Pan-India Supply

The butter chiplet line has been established within Mother Dairy’s existing milk-processing infrastructure in Junagadh. With a stated annual production capacity of 550 tonnes, the facility is expected to serve markets across India.

Using an existing processing location can allow dairy companies to build new product categories while leveraging established manufacturing and distribution capabilities.

The development also highlights the growing importance of value addition within the dairy sector. Rather than focusing only on conventional bulk and household-sized formats, processors are increasingly developing products tailored to specific consumption occasions and customer requirements.

Growth of Value-Added Dairy Formats

The launch comes amid a broader shift in the food and dairy industry toward convenient, portion-controlled and ready-to-use products.

Butter chiplets can have applications across multiple consumption settings, including breakfast services, restaurants, hotels, catering operations and institutional foodservice, where individually portioned products can simplify serving and inventory management.

For consumers, smaller formats can offer convenience and help provide a predetermined quantity for individual use.

The development therefore represents not only a new product format for Mother Dairy but also an example of how dairy processors are adapting existing products to changing consumption and packaging requirements.

Strengthening the Packaged Butter Portfolio

Mother Dairy’s investment in dedicated butter chiplet production adds another product format to its packaged dairy portfolio. The pan-India supply strategy could allow the company to introduce the format across different consumer and foodservice markets.

The Junagadh facility’s 550-tonne annual capacity provides a dedicated production base for the product while allowing Mother Dairy to leverage its existing dairy-processing infrastructure in Gujarat.

As the Indian dairy industry continues to move toward greater product diversification and value addition, convenient formats such as butter chiplets could become an increasingly important part of packaged dairy offerings.

The new facility demonstrates how established dairy processors are expanding beyond traditional formats to address convenience, portion control and changing consumption patterns.
