In a landmark collaboration poised to reshape the global animal feed industry, Archer Daniels Midland (ADM) and Alltech have announced a strategic joint venture to combine their North American feed businesses. The move aligns ADM’s U.S. feed operations with Alltech’s Hubbard Feeds in the U.S. and Masterfeeds in Canada.
This new entity will leverage 33 feed mills across the U.S. and Canada, enabling the combined forces to accelerate growth in speciality nutrition, value-added feed ingredients, and precision livestock solutions.
“This is a milestone moment — one that sets the stage for the continued growth of our North America feed business and enhances the advantage we can deliver to those we serve,” said Mark Lyons, President & CEO of Alltech, in a LinkedIn post announcing the partnership.
For Lyons, the partnership is deeply personal and symbolic. In the same post, he reflected:
“The first company name I can remember, besides our own, is ADM — a name I’ve heard since I was 3 years old… What began with a single order decades ago has now evolved into something much greater.”
This “full-circle moment,” as Lyons describes it, underscores the depth of the long-standing relationship between Alltech and ADM — a connection that began with a simple purchase order and has now matured into a strategic global partnership.
The joint venture combines:
- Extensive manufacturing scale
- Trusted product portfolios
- Innovation in animal nutrition science
- Expertise in livestock and dairy feed
“We’re building something greater than the sum of its parts, with the shared goal of advancing animal nutrition and delivering our customers every advantage,” Lyons emphasized.
🌍 Why This Matters for India’s Dairy and Feed Sector
This move signals a global trend toward consolidation and specialization in animal nutrition — a direction that holds important cues for the Indian dairy industry:
- R&D-led nutrition: Focus is shifting from bulk commodity feed to scientifically formulated, species-specific nutrition strategies.
- Global benchmarks rising: Indian feed manufacturers must now consider integrating enzymes, probiotics, and data-driven nutrition into their offerings.
- Partnership opportunities: Indian companies could benefit from strategic alliances with global leaders to tap into proprietary tech and feed solutions.
“This JV shows how global leaders are moving toward precision feed science. Indian dairy players must evolve toward integrated feed-nutrition-health strategies to remain future-ready,” said Dr. Ananya Mukherjee, a senior dairy nutritionist.
