Bihar Animal Sciences University to Inaugurate Cutting-Edge Dairy Engineering Facility in Patna

Patna: Bihar’s ambition to modernise its dairy and veterinary education sector is taking a significant leap forward with the imminent inauguration of a state-of-the-art dairy engineering facility at Bihar Animal Sciences University (BASU), Patna. Spread over 5,704 square metres on the university’s upcoming campus, the new four-storey building promises to set a new benchmark for research and training infrastructure in the region.

Officials from the Building Construction Department (BCD) confirmed that all major civil works have been completed, with final finishing touches underway. Designed with a strong focus on innovation and sustainability, the facility houses modern laboratories — including a dairy process engineering lab, a food engineering lab, and a fully equipped computer lab. In addition, the building features a dedicated workshop and four seminar halls to foster academic engagement and skill development.

Kumar Ravi, Secretary of the BCD, emphasised the strategic importance of the project, stating:

“The construction of the dairy engineering facility marks a major milestone for Bihar’s dairy sector. Equipped with advanced technology and the latest laboratory equipment, the facility will significantly enhance opportunities for students and researchers.”

He further elaborated on the progress across the broader BASU campus:

“Alongside academic facilities, we are also developing residential quarters for students and scientists, and building an indoor and outdoor sports complex to ensure holistic development.”

Ravi added:

“Quality control measures, including regular site inspections and departmental monitoring, have been instituted to ensure timely and high-standard project delivery.”

The expansive BASU campus, located on a 224.53-acre site within the Bihar Veterinary College premises, is designed to become India’s flagship centre for animal sciences. In addition to the dairy engineering facility, the campus will house administrative and academic blocks, a state-of-the-art veterinary clinical complex, a 1,200-seat auditorium, and a dedicated farmer training centre. The residential infrastructure includes separate hostels for 350 male and 150 female students, accommodation for 50 scientists, 222 staff apartments across various categories, a Vice Chancellor’s residence, and a university guest house.

Highlighting the comprehensive nature of the development, Ravi mentioned:

“As the university is providing land, we are working. Old structures are being demolished to build new buildings. The entire project will be completed by the end of 2025, by utilizing funds to the tune of ₹890 crore.”

The upcoming inauguration of the dairy engineering facility not only symbolises the transformation of Bihar’s educational landscape but also strengthens the state’s strategic positioning in India’s fast-evolving dairy sector.
