Wazirabad facility will produce 400,000 tonnes annually and create over 1,000 jobs
Wazirabad, Punjab: Cargill Animal Nutrition & Health has inaugurated a new dairy-feed manufacturing plant in Wazirabad, Punjab, strengthening its production footprint in one of India’s major dairy-producing regions.
The facility represents an investment of ₹300 crore and has an annual manufacturing capacity of 400,000 metric tonnes, making it Cargill’s largest dairy-feed facility in South Asia.
The new plant is expected to improve the availability of quality animal nutrition products for dairy farmers while supporting local employment, manufacturing and economic activity.
Cargill expands dairy-feed manufacturing in Punjab
Located across 15 acres, the Wazirabad facility is Cargill’s second dairy-feed plant in Punjab, following its Bathinda operation.
The plant is strategically positioned in a region with a high concentration of dairy production. Cargill said the location will allow it to manufacture feed closer to farming communities, helping improve the reliability and availability of dairy nutrition products.
The facility will manufacture feed for young animals and milking cows, serving dairy farmers, dairy producers and feed mills.
Products manufactured at the plant will be marketed under Cargill’s globally recognised Provimi and Purina brands.

Focus on quality and science-based nutrition
The new facility will use automated systems and advanced manufacturing technologies to produce dairy feed.
Cargill said its products will comply with Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) requirements, with an emphasis on low-toxin feed and science-based nutrition.
The company expects the expansion to improve supply reliability while supporting dairy farmers in improving farm profitability.
Ravinder Balain, President of Cargill India and Senior Managing Director of Cargill Animal Nutrition & Health, said that expanding manufacturing closer to Punjab’s major dairy regions would help provide farmers with more dependable access to quality feed.
The facility has also been designed according to Cargill’s global standards covering workplace safety, biosecurity and product quality.
Punjab seeks greater agricultural investment
The plant was inaugurated by Sanjeev Arora, Punjab’s Minister of Industries and Commerce, alongside Cargill executives.
Arora highlighted Punjab’s importance to India’s agricultural and dairy sectors and said investments from global companies could strengthen the state’s industrial ecosystem while creating employment and supporting rural livelihoods.
He also said the Punjab government would support investors and aims to establish the state as a preferred destination for investment in the agricultural and food sectors.
More than 1,000 jobs expected
Cargill expects the Wazirabad facility to generate more than 1,000 direct and indirect jobs.
The company said its Wazirabad and Bathinda operations will contribute to local manufacturing, skills development and economic activity in surrounding communities.
The investment comes as India continues to strengthen its dairy value chain. India is the world’s largest milk producer, accounting for more than a quarter of global milk production. Dairy also represents one of the country’s most important agricultural sectors and provides livelihoods for millions of farmers.
