Former Gannavaram MLA Dr Dasari Venkata Balavardhana Rao has been unanimously elected chairman of the Krishna District Milk Producers Mutually Aided Cooperative Union Limited, popularly known as Vijaya Dairy.
The election took place during a board meeting held at the Milk Project in Chittinagar, Vijayawada, on Tuesday. The meeting was convened specifically to elect a new chairman following the resignation of Chalasani Anjaneyulu from the position.
Dr Balavardhana Rao, who had been serving as a senior board member of the Krishna District Milk Union, received unanimous support from the members present at the meeting. A total of 14 board members, including Dr Balavardhana Rao, attended the meeting, and the members supported his candidature for the chairmanship.
Managing Director Kolli Eswara Rao and other officials of the milk union were also present during the proceedings. Following the election, directors including Vemuri Sai, Arja Nagesh and Babu Rao, along with other board members, felicitated the newly elected chairman.
Speaking at a press conference organised after his election, Dr Balavardhana Rao expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to serve as chairman of the cooperative milk union. He thanked Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan and Minister Nara Lokesh for their support.
He also expressed gratitude to district ministers Kollu Ravindra and Kolusu Parthasarathy, local public representatives and members of the Krishna Milk Union board.
The appointment comes at a time when dairy cooperatives continue to play an important role in connecting milk producers with organised dairy markets. Milk unions such as Vijaya Dairy work with dairy farmers through procurement and cooperative networks, supporting the collection and processing of milk and the distribution of dairy products.

Dr Balavardhana Rao’s previous experience as a senior board member of the union is expected to provide continuity in the organisation’s administration. His unanimous election also indicates that the board members present supported his candidature without the need for a contested election.
The Krishna District Milk Union is part of Andhra Pradesh’s cooperative dairy network and has a role in the local milk procurement and dairy value chain. The chairman’s responsibilities include working with the board and management on the functioning of the cooperative and issues affecting milk producers and the organisation.
The leadership transition follows the resignation of the previous chairman and was handled through a dedicated board meeting. With the new chairman now elected, the cooperative can continue its administrative and operational activities under the new leadership.
