Chief Minister Thakur Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu said here today that BJP has only done politics in the name of cow, whereas the present Congress government has made many schemes for the welfare of cows and cowherds. He said that to solve the problem of destitute animals, the state government has also decided to increase the grant given to dependent cows in private cow shelters from Rs 700 to Rs 1200 per month. Apart from this, a state level task force will be formed to deal with the problem of stray animals in the state, which will give its suggestions for keeping these animals in cow sanctuaries and cow sheds after consultation with the farmers and local communities, the provision for which will be made in the budget. Has been done in 2024-25. These steps will help in dealing with the problem of destitute animals and farmers will be attracted towards farming again.
He said that the present state government is taking many effective steps to strengthen the rural economy so that the standard of living of the people living in the villages can be improved. He said that about 90 percent of the state’s population lives in villages and government policies and programs are being made to strengthen their economic status. He said that the government has ensured increase in the income of farmers by linking animal husbandry and milk production with natural farming. The Chief Minister said that to provide best breed animals to the cattle rearers, an Artificial Insemination Training Center will be established at Darlaghat in Solan district, where artificial insemination training will be provided. He said that Himachal Pradesh is the first state in the country where support price is being provided on milk. He said that the state government is ensuring support price of Rs 45 per liter on cow milk and Rs 55 per liter on buffalo milk to the animal farmers.
Thakur Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu said that the state government will ensure fair prices for milk products to farmers and animal rearers and will also pay attention to the quality of milk products. He said that with the aim of skill development related to animal husbandry among the youth of the state, new skill training programs will be started through Himachal Pradesh Skill Development Corporation. He said that an additional plant with a capacity of 50 thousand LPD is being started in the milk processing plant in Dattanagar. He said that milk processing plants with modern technology are being set up in Una and Hamirpur on which approximately Rs 50 crore will be spent.
