Kochi: With milk consumption expected to rise significantly during the Onam season, Kerala’s Dairy Development Department has launched an intensive milk testing campaign in Ernakulam to strengthen quality monitoring and ensure consumers have access to safe and compliant milk.
The initiative is being led by the Ernakulam district quality control section of the Dairy Development Department and aims to increase surveillance of milk quality during a period when demand traditionally rises.
District panchayat president K. G. Radhakrishnan inaugurated the milk testing camp and information centre at the Civil Station on Thursday, while District Collector G. Priyanka inaugurated the sample collection process for testing.
Focus on Milk Safety During Onam
Onam is one of Kerala’s major festive periods, when household consumption of milk and other dairy products increases.
The seasonal increase in demand makes effective quality monitoring particularly important, as dairy products move through multiple stages of collection, transportation, processing and retail distribution.
