Milma Eyes U.S. & European Markets: Kerala’s Dairy Giant Expands Global Footprint

Milma to Export Dairy Products to U.S. & Europe: A Game-Changer for India’s Dairy Industry
In a bold move to tap into global markets, the Kerala Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (KCMMF), popularly known as Milma, is actively negotiating partnerships with international business networks to export its premium dairy products to the United States and Europe. The cooperative aims to leverage its newly inaugurated Moorkanad plant in Malappuram district to produce high-value, long-shelf-life products such as clarified butter (ghee) and milk powder for global distribution.

Milma’s Global Expansion Strategy

Speaking on this strategic move, Milma Chairman K.S. Mani stated that the cooperative is evaluating a diverse product portfolio for international markets. He emphasized that once ongoing negotiations are finalized, exports will commence, marking a significant milestone for the dairy giant.

The initiative is supported by key agencies specializing in international dairy trade and export compliance, which are expected to visit Milma’s production units soon. This development aligns with Milma’s broader vision of standardizing product quality, packaging, and pricing to strengthen its competitive edge in the global dairy industry.

Success in West Asia Fuels Milma’s Global Ambitions

Milma has already made significant strides in the Middle Eastern dairy market, successfully exporting ghee from multiple production units across Kerala. With a robust supply chain that handles over 16 lakh litres of milk daily, the cooperative is now poised to take on larger, more competitive markets in the U.S. and Europe.

This export push comes at a time when the global dairy industry is witnessing an increasing demand for high-quality Indian dairy products, especially ghee, paneer, and traditional milk-based items.

A Cooperative Model That Works

Milma, one of India’s most successful dairy cooperatives, boasts an impressive network of 10 lakh registered farmers, with around three lakh dairy farmers supplying milk daily. The brand offers an extensive range of value-added dairy products, including:

Ghee, Butter, and Cheese

Curd, Yogurt, and Paneer

Flavored Milk, Ice Cream, and Dairy Beverages

The cooperative’s ability to maintain quality, sustainability, and farmer-centric policies has played a crucial role in its consistent growth and now its international expansion.

What’s Next for Milma?

With the U.S. and European dairy markets being highly competitive, Milma’s strategy will focus on:

Meeting stringent global dairy standards

Innovating packaging and shelf-life technology

Competitive pricing and branding for international consumers

This expansion will not only strengthen India’s position in the global dairy market but also create better economic opportunities for Indian dairy farmers.
