Purabi Dairy, Northeast India’s largest dairy cooperative, has launched its first traditional sweets, Purabi Kalakand and Purabi Milk Cake, to mark National Milk Day. The new Purabi Mithai range will be available at Purabi Parlour Panjabari, all Purabi Milk Booths and select grocery stores across Guwahati. Manufactured by WAMUL and marketed by NEDFL, the products reflect the cooperative’s shift towards a wider, value-added portfolio.
NEDFL Managing Director Satya Brata Bose said the launch strengthens Purabi’s promise of fresh, hygienic and trustworthy dairy offerings. WAMUL MD Sameer Kumar Parida noted that expanding into mithai will drive higher milk procurement, supporting thousands of rural producers and enhancing the cooperative’s economic impact across Assam.
During the state-level National Milk Day event, the Assam government felicitated five Purabi farmers, Majar Ali, Mani Bala Das, Tajer Rahman, Mina Chetry and Som Bahadur Chetry, recognising their progressive practices and contributions to regional dairy development. Nearly 60 Purabi farmers participated in the celebration.
Purabi officials highlighted that the cooperative’s ongoing efforts, from improved farmer training and producer group development to modernised processing infrastructure and expanded retail channels, are helping build a more resilient and consumer-focused dairy ecosystem in the state. They added that initiatives like Purabi Mithai not only diversify the product basket but also strengthen farmer livelihoods, reinforcing the cooperative’s commitment to sustainable growth in Assam’s dairy sector.
