Rajasthan Reports Strong Growth in Dairy and Animal Husbandry Sectors

The Rajasthan government has reported significant progress in its dairy and animal husbandry sectors, highlighting a notable rise in milk production revenue, improved financial performance of cooperative milk unions, and accelerated expansion of processing capacity. According to the Chief Minister’s Office, annual turnover from milk production and cattle feed has increased from ₹8,000 crore to ₹10,000 crore over the past two years, driven by a strengthened cooperative network and expanded infrastructure.

The state’s cooperative milk unions, many of which were previously operating under financial stress, have recorded a marked turnaround. Government figures show that the annual profit of cooperative milk unions has risen by nearly 44%, with all 24 milk units now operating in profit, compared to 15 units running at a loss until 2023. Officials attribute this recovery to improved governance, enhanced procurement systems and operational restructuring across the cooperative framework.

Rajasthan has simultaneously undertaken a major expansion of its dairy processing base. Installed processing capacity has increased from 48 lakh litres per day to 54 lakh litres per day, with a new target of 70 lakh litres per day set for completion within the next two years. This capacity expansion is expected to support higher milk procurement volumes, reduce supply bottlenecks and enhance value-added product diversification.

To enable faster infrastructure development, the Rajasthan Cooperative Dairy Federation (RCDF) has established a dedicated ₹1,000 crore fund, aimed at scaling processing plants, modernising chilling centres and strengthening logistics.

This coordinated push reflects the state’s broader strategy to position dairy as a key driver of rural incomes and agribusiness growth. With cooperative reforms taking hold and new processing investments underway, Rajasthan appears poised to consolidate its standing as one of India’s fastest-growing dairy-producing regions.
