Sanchi Hikes Milk Prices by ₹2/Litre Amid Rising Procurement and Input Costs

Indore, May 7, 2025 — In a move reflecting mounting pressures across India’s dairy value chain, the Indore Cooperative Dugdh Sangh, which markets milk under the Sanchi brand, has increased prices of its packaged milk by ₹2 per litre, effective today.

The full cream variant, Sanchi Gold, now costs ₹67 per litre for a 1-litre pack and ₹34 for a 500ml pack. The price hike is applicable across all major packaging sizes of Sanchi’s milk portfolio.

“The procurement cost has risen significantly, and to ensure better remuneration to farmers, we’ve revised prices across the board,” said Balbir Sharma, CEO of Indore Cooperative Dugdh Sangh.

📈 Why the Price Hike?

The dairy union attributes the increase to:

  • Higher milk procurement prices paid to farmers
  • A steep rise in cattle feed and fodder costs
  • Seasonal dip in milk production
  • Fuel and logistics inflation impacting distribution

Sanchi’s last revision was 8 months ago—also a ₹2/litre increase.

🥛 Sanchi’s Market Footprint in Indore

  • Daily sales: Approx. 2.25 lakh litres
  • Daily milk collection in the Indore region: 2.5–2.75 lakh litres

This makes Sanchi a key player in Indore’s dairy supply, and even a modest hike has direct implications for household budgets and local retail.

💬 What This Means for Consumers and the Industry

As dairy processors grapple with rising input costs, price revisions are becoming increasingly common. The trend reflects:

  • A tightening margin environment for processors
  • Increased efforts to support dairy farmers
  • Greater volatility in milk production cycles

For consumers, this may signal the start of a broader trend of incremental food inflation, particularly in essential protein-rich products like milk.
