Hatsun Agro Launches Go-Dhan Initiative to Support 6,000 Dairy Farmers in Odisha

Hatsun Agro Product Ltd. (HAPL) has launched Go-Dhan, a new initiative aimed at supporting dairy farmers across Odisha by improving access to institutional finance, government schemes, modern dairy practices and technology.

The initiative was formally launched at the OUAT Auditorium in Bhubaneswar on September 29, bringing together representatives from the Odisha government, banking institutions and the dairy industry. The programme focuses on strengthening farmer livelihoods and supporting the development of Odisha’s dairy economy.

Initiative to cover 15 districts

Go-Dhan is expected to benefit around 6,000 dairy farmers across 15 districts of Odisha. The initiative will support farmers seeking to invest in areas such as quality bovine breeds, improved cattle housing, farm mechanisation, animal nutrition and herd health.

Access to institutional finance is a key component of the programme. Hatsun Agro plans to work with its partners to help farmers access suitable financial support and government assistance for developing and expanding dairy operations.

The initiative will also seek to leverage government subsidy programmes, including the Mukhyamantri Krushi Udyog Yojana (MKUY), which could help participating farmers access more affordable capital for investments in their farms.

Focus on scientific dairy farming

Go-Dhan has been designed around several requirements considered important for sustainable dairy development, including scientific farm management, improved productivity, animal health and access to technology.

Dairy farming provides an important source of income for rural households, particularly where livestock can offer farmers a regular source of earnings. Improving access to better breeds, nutrition, housing and mechanisation could help participating farmers strengthen their dairy operations.

According to Hatsun Agro Chairman R. G. Chandramogan, the company aims to support the establishment of more than 6,000 dairy farms over the next three years, with implementation planned in phases.

Government and banking collaboration

The programme brings together Hatsun Agro, the Department of Fisheries & Animal Resources Development, the Agriculture Promotion and Investment Corporation of Odisha (APICOL) and the State Bank of India.

The collaboration is intended to connect dairy farmers with government programmes and financial institutions while supporting investments in farm infrastructure and livestock management.

The launch event was attended by senior representatives including Odisha government officials, APICOL Managing Director Sri Shubhranshu and State Bank of India Chief General Manager Sri Rakesh Kumar Yadav, along with Hatsun Agro Chairman R. G. Chandramogan.

Building Odisha’s dairy value chain

Hatsun Agro said the initiative is also aimed at strengthening the dairy value chain within Odisha. The company intends to produce and procure milk locally while creating opportunities for farmers to participate in a broader regional dairy market.

The company said milk sourced through the initiative could serve consumers in Odisha as well as neighbouring markets, including West Bengal and North Andhra Pradesh.

Developing local procurement could create stronger connections between dairy farmers, milk collection, processing and consumer markets. It could also support the expansion of dairy-related economic activity across the state.

Wider Hatsun dairy network

Hatsun Agro Product is one of India’s major private-sector dairy companies and procures milk directly from more than 500,000 farmers, according to company information. Its portfolio includes brands such as Arokya Milk & Milk Products, Hatsun Dairy Products, Arun Icecreams and ibaco, along with HAP Daily retail outlets.

The company also operates Santosa, an in-house cattle feed and cattle-care brand.

With Go-Dhan, Hatsun Agro is expanding its farmer-focused activities into Odisha with an emphasis on financing, technology, scientific dairy management and market access. The initiative’s progress over the next three years will determine how effectively these support systems translate into additional dairy farms and stronger farmer incomes across the participating districts.
