Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated a Rs 76.5 crore milk powder plant in Indore, under the Indore Cooperative Milk Union, with a production capacity of 30 metric tonnes per day. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav said the facility, part of the National Programme for Dairy Development (NPDD), will strengthen Madhya Pradesh’s dairy sector, aiming to raise its contribution to national milk production from 9% to 20% in five years.
Yadav highlighted the Bhavantar Bhugtan Yojana, ensuring soybean farmers receive fair prices if market rates fall below the MSP, with payments directly credited to farmers’ accounts.
The plant is expected to enhance milk processing capacity, improve farmer incomes, generate local employment, and modernise dairy infrastructure. Officials added that it will also ensure high-quality milk products reach consumers nationwide and support the state’s long-term dairy growth strategy.
The project forms part of a broader plan to strengthen Madhya Pradesh’s dairy ecosystem and promote technological adoption in milk processing. It is also expected to encourage more farmers to join cooperative networks, enhancing the state’s overall contribution to India’s dairy production.
