🥛 Purabi Dairy Makes History with Assam’s First International Dairy Export to Bhutan
Assam’s dairy sector has achieved a historic milestone as Purabi Dairy exported its first international consignment of dairy products to Bhutan. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma flagged off the shipment of 5,627 litres of Purabi ice cream, marking the first-ever dairy export from the state.
The milestone is expected to strengthen Assam’s dairy industry while creating new market opportunities for dairy cooperatives and milk producers across the state.
🌍 Purabi Ice Cream Enters the Bhutanese Market
The export consignment will make Purabi ice cream available in key cities across Bhutan, including:
- 📍 Thimphu
- 📍 Paro
- 📍 Phuentsholing
- 📍 Wangdue
The initiative represents a significant step towards expanding Assam’s dairy products into international markets.
🐄 New Opportunities for Assam’s Dairy Farmers
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the export reflects the growing strength of Assam’s dairy sector.
He highlighted that Purabi ice cream is manufactured using milk supplied by dairy farmers across Assam, making the achievement a direct benefit for the state’s cooperative dairy network and rural producers.
🤝 Strengthening the Dairy Value Chain
Kaushik Rai, Assam’s Minister for Cooperation and Chairman of North East Dairy and Foods Limited (NEDFL), described the export as a major achievement for the state’s dairy sector.
He noted that every pack of Purabi ice cream in the export consignment was produced using milk sourced from Assam’s dairy farmers, highlighting the strength of the Purabi value chain and the contribution of local milk producers.
📦 APEDA Facilitates Export Process
The export was facilitated by the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA).
According to Sunita Rai, Deputy General Manager, APEDA, the organisation has been working to promote agricultural and processed food exports from Northeast India by assisting companies with international trade requirements, export documentation, and regulatory procedures.
The successful shipment marks an important step in expanding Assam’s presence in global dairy markets and enhancing export opportunities for value-added dairy products.
